This person shared an email they sent to a potential job...

Declining offer Add label 20:31 Hi Shreya, We had an interview today in the afternoon. I am writing this to inform you that I'm no longer interested in the position I was offered earlier.

A "one week trial" that requires office attendance and full employee level work is not a trial but unpaid labor. I'm not willing to proceed under those terms. Wishing you luck finding no one comfortable with that arrangement. Thank you

They explained further why they chose to do this

One week of unpaid 'office attendance' and full-time work? That's a 40-hour donation to a company that clearly doesn't value its people. Friendly

reminder: Skills tests should take an hour, not a work week. This is illegal. This is wage theft.

Deb Brown @DebBrow1634... I hope this message was sent 10 minutes prior to the scheduled "office attendance".

Justin M @JakeSpectre89 I remember years back saying I was having issues finding a job out of college to a guy that worked at a gastroenterologist's office. He said oh yeah I was an unpaid intern for like 2 years before I got this gig and I was like WTF?

jimheps @jimheps I interviewed at a coffee shop that said I needed to do a test shift for free. I wish I told them they'd have to pay me.

Paul J. Spetrini @PaulSpetrini It's nothing more than a final test to ensure they hire employees who won't speak up for themselves and can be fully exploited.

Andrey @Andrey__HQ I mean if it's a trial then the people still deserve to be paid for their time otherwise you use all your applicants for free and end up paying nobody makes no sense

Xander Ciarcia @NonCitizen Fi... Reminds me of an 8 hour "brainstorming interview" with a real problem they were facing, whiteboard and all. We want to see how you think...

Ryder @ryderjj89 Wow what the ☐ ? This is just a few steps worse than the "do this little project as part of the interview" and then they reject you once you've completed the work that they'll take and profit off of.

Vicky @Vicky1232989 Years ago I was offered a two week unpaid trial. I didn't even reply to the email.
